Environmental Activists Gear Up to Push Socialism Nationwide

October 2, 2019

As we head into 2020, the far-left environmental activists are preparing to force their agenda onto Americans nationwide.

Buzzfeed News reports that the Sunrise Movement is expanding its operations in New Hampshire and Iowa to put environmental activism as a key issue in early presidential primary states.

From the article:

“Our top priority is to build an army of young people to elect a candidate in the caucuses who will be a champion of the Green New Deal,” Kaleb Van Fosson, a Sunrise organizer based in Iowa, told BuzzFeed News.

Van Fossen is one of eight people working full time, along with 45 volunteers, on the Iowa campaign. Since early September, 1,425 people in Iowa have signed cards pledging to vote for candidates backing a Green New Deal, a 10-year plan to transition the US off fossil fuels in order to cut the nation’s climate pollution, create jobs, and tackle economic inequality. About 150 people have also registered to vote through the campaign, according to Sunrise. The group’s end goal is to get 15,000 students to pledge to caucus, and to register 1,200 students to vote before the Feb. 3 caucus.

In New Hampshire, the climate group has joined forces with the New Hampshire Youth Movement, which is dedicated to pushing the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and free college. It has 13 full-time staffers and 122 volunteers combined. Unlike in Iowa, a third party cannot register people to vote in the state. So the campaign has instead gathered 2,789 pledges to vote. Its target is to get 14,000 people to pledge to vote before the Feb. 11 primary.

The Sunrise Movement has claimed to be about protecting the environment, but now it is clear they are nothing more than a political front aiming to force a socialist agenda on the country. Free college and Medicare for All aren’t exactly leading environmental policies.

As Power the Future previously exposed, the Sunrise Movement is hardly a grassroots organization, despite what they like to tell you. In fact, the Sunrise Movement received initial funding from 350.org, a well-known environmental group. Sunrise even accepted a $50,000 check from the Sierra Club.

In addition to 350.org and the Sierra Club, the Sunrise Movement also has ties to politically-connected Democratic-leaning organizations, including the Wallace Global Fund, the Rockefeller Family Fund and the Winslow Foundation.

These are mainstream Democrat groups. Members of the Wallace Global Fund have given over $2 million to Democratic candidates since 2004, including to both the DCCC and DSCC. Members of the Rockefeller Family fund have funneled cash to high-profile Democratic Senators like John Tester, Bob Casey, Elizabeth Warren and Sheldon Whitehouse. The Sierra Club is a major player on the left, and has helped fund Senate Majority PAC.

Over half of the Sunrise Movement’s funds came from “institutional funders” like these. This is hardly a grassroots organization.
